Environmental Controls Group
Services and Contracts for 2025
Specialist Control Services:
Environmental Controls Group (which includes Japanese Knotweed Ltd) provides a range of environmental services to meet marketplace demands and for its discerning customers.
Our Company Day 2025 highlighted the progression of the business, which is being achieved via a diversified range of specialist control services. Those services are provided via our two brands: Japanese Knotweed Ltd, and Environment Controls.
The group is motivated to see what 2025 will bring, as we review what we achieved in 2024 and the contracts we have in place for the coming year:
Japanese Knotweed Ltd:
Japanese Knotweed Ltd is a leading national contractor in the control and removal of knotweed. Our Japanese knotweed services include:
- Japanese Knotweed Survey and Verification Reports.
- Japanese Knotweed Pre-legal assessments and Legal Reports.
- Japanese Knotweed Management Plans – Herbicide and Excavation.
The company now has over 7,000 concurrent knotweed customers, mostly being serviced with multi-year Japanese knotweed herbicide management plans, with guarantees.
Over 8,000 work visits were undertaken in 2024 and over 800 new herbicide management plan contracts were added to our project’s portfolio.
Many customers opt to eradicate Japanese knotweed from their land via excavation methods. In 2024 the company completed over 100 knotweed excavation contracts nationally across the UK.
Through public sector tender opportunities, we have secured two large contracts for Invasive weed control delivery in 2025 and beyond:
- London Borough of Hounslow – Japanese knotweed, Giant hogweed, and Floating pennywort.
- Rossendale Council – Japanese knotweed.
Environment Controls:
Under of brand, Environment Controls (a trading name of Japanese Knotweed Ltd), we provide the following 4 services:
- Invasive Weed Management Plans – Herbicide and Excavation.
- Invasive Bamboo Management Plans – Herbicide and Extraction.
Our other Invasive Plant services are growing year-on-year. In additional too well-known invasive plants such as Himalayan balsam and Giant hogweed we provide control programmes for American Skunk Cabbage, Horsetail, and many other invasive plant species.
Our services for Invasive Bamboo are in high demand with residential customers either looking for herbicide control plans or instant removal options provided via our extraction service.
Ragwort is a persistent problem for landowners and our Ragwort treatment service provides cost effective control via specially kitted-out quad bikes and specific targeted herbicide usage.
- Amenity Weed Management – Roads, Pavements and Public Open Spaces.
Our fastest growing service sector is our Amenity Weed Management services. From our first contract in 2022, our unique offering is quickly becoming a desirable solution for multiple councils across the UK to help keep weeds under control.
Our unique service includes low volume spray equipment, demonstrating our commitment to improving herbicide application techniques and usage within the industry. Working closely with Authorities to continue to apply glyphosate in a sustainable manner with increased efficacy and less impact on the wider environment.
Our Amenity Weed Management contract portfolio of 4 councils with repeat contracts, grew with the addition of 3 new multi-year contract wins for delivery in 2025:
- Nottingham City Council.
- Halton Council.
- London Borough of Merton.
- Non-licensable Asbestos in soils removal.
Another service with significant sales is our removal of non-licensable Asbestos in soils removal. Although available as a standalone service, when provided in combination with the removal of invasive weeds, we are offering our clients an efficient and cost effective multi-contaminate removal contracting option!
In this case study we explain how our team found asbestos onsite when on a commercial knotweed excavation contract, and how the client benefitted from having both contaminants removed at the same time.
