KEY CASE STUDY HIGHLIGHTS

the brief

Japanese knotweed currently affects thousands of residential properties across the UK. Often the best method is a scheduled herbicide programme, however in this case the client opted for complete eradication by excavation of a large area of Japanese knotweed from a residential property, additionally to secure the property from potential encroachment of knotweed growing in the adjacent garden.

The problem

We carried out a site survey of the property to identify any infestation. The survey established that knotweed was growing within both the front and rear gardens in three areas each covering approximately 1 square metre, however a further surrounding 3 metres would be ‘at-risk’ of knotweed growth due the underground rhizomes not visible above ground. Additionally knotweed was visibly growing in the neighbouring property, which would cause encroachment issues if allowed to penetrate the client’s land.

our solution

Over a period of three days, we completed full excavation to a depth of 1.3 metres with all waste being removed to landfill. We also installed root barriers that would ensure any potential fragments of rhizome would not be able to grow into new plants. The area offsite will continue to be treated under a herbicide treatment programme to ensure no further problems will occur in the future.

the outcome

Here’s what the client said:

“Last summer (2022), JKL had competed full excavation works to remove a large area of Japanese knotweed at the rear of our property, in addition to a small outbreak by the side of our house which had sprouted up. I would highly recommend Japanese Knotweed Ltd, not only based on price (cheaper than other knotweed providers especially on quotes based on surveys but also overall), but also on service throughout the process.”
